Welcome to the Conemaugh Township Area Intermediate School, formerly known as Central Elementary. We are the home of approximately 360 students in grade 2-6, 36 highly qualified faculty, and 20 staff.
Our students, faculty and staff are on the move both academically and physically. They are also very active in the arts as well.
The Intermediate School was honored to receive a second Keystone Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for three consecutive years of adequate yearly progress on the Pennsylvania System of State Assessments for 2002-03/2003-04, 2003-04/2004-05, 2004-05/2005-06, and 2005-06/2006-07 respectively.
Academically our school has been on the move in the following ways:
-
The Intermediate School offered advanced group instruction in each grade level for eligible students. These classrooms provided additional learning opportunities.
-
Students receive reinforcement in content area skills through the use of Study Island.
-
The Olweus Bullying Prevention program, initiated by the high school administration and faculty, was utilized to promote a safe and comfortable learning environment.
-
Additional academic activities included our annual Fall Fest, Accelerated Reader, Spelling Bee, and Reading Night.
From a physical perspective we promote a healthy lifestyle with our in-line skating program, Jump Rope for Heart, our annual Track and Field days, and "Being Healthy Rocks" sixth grade curriculum unit that incorporates the use of pedometers and specially designed lessons. Our students also utilize heart rate monitors in physical education. Intermediate School faculty, staff and parent volunteers were responsible for two District-sponsored community events including our annual 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Trot (Tribe Trot) and our annual Hershey Track and Field Youth Event. Additionally, we have embarked on the formation of a Fitness Center to promote fitness opportunities to students, faculty, and staff. We are the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Highmark Healthy High 5 program. The grant has been used in our gym and fitness center areas.
Students at the Intermediate School have enjoyed the arts through yearly music concerts, fifth and sixth grade band and chorus, fourth grade recorders, and fourth grade pre-band. In addition, sixth grade students have had the opportunity to participate in the PMEA District Elementary Band Festival held at a local school district each year. The Conemaugh Lions Club has also sponsored a yearly Peace Poster Contest for sixth grade students. The local Lion's Club provided prizes for the posters that best reflected the theme of the project and also the artistic rendering of their idea.
Our continued commitment to excellence in all areas of school life truly embodies the District philosophy, Conemaugh Township, A Great Place to Grow!
Respectfully,
Nicole Dull, Principal
