Programs
At Conemaugh Township Area School District, we strive to provide an atmosphere that will encourage the development of lifelong learners who can recognize and achieve their potential. By offering a variety of programs, we are better equipped to meet the needs of our diverse student population and give them opportunities to find success. This page is dedicated to helping you find out more about some of the programs we offer.
Federal Programs
Federal programs provide funding to implement specialized intervention programs for students who are at risk of not meeting state proficiency standards. Our participation in these programs allows us to hire and train highly-qualified staff to facilitate them.
Title I
Title I is a federally funded supplemental education program designed to help children meet state content and performance standards in reading, language arts, and mathematics. Conemaugh Township qualifies for Title I programs in K–5th grades. Title I has paid for after-school tutoring, our kindergarten readiness program, materials, training for the Response to Intervention Program, and the purchase of instructional technologies.
Title IIA
Title IIA is a federally funded program that provides funding to improve teacher skills and quality of instruction. Conemaugh Township uses its Title IIA funds to maintain small class sizes and offer benefits that will attract highly qualified teachers to our schools.
Special Education
Conemaugh provides a free and appropriate education for all of its students, including those students with disabilities and special giftedness. Our special education program works with families to create Individualized Education Plans (IEP's) to meet the special needs of their children. This plan includes related services in and out of school, at no cost to the family, to compliment students’ personal instruction and ensure they receive the most benefit from their education. For more information, please visit our Student Services page.
Fine Arts
We endeavor to provide our students with opportunities to showcase their talents in the fine arts field. At the high school level, we offer classes in music, art, theatre, and language, in addition to extra-curricular clubs. Even our elementary students participate in comprehensive art and music programs. Our students are responsible for preforming at such community events as:
- Concert Band
- Choral Concerts
- Coffee House Performances
- Renaissance Faire
- Athletic Events
- High School Musicals
Technology and Vo-Tech Training
At CTASD we are working to ensure our students are ready to compete in a global economy. That means they need the necessary tools of a 21st century education that will prepare them for life after high school, both in college and career. In order to fulfill this goal, we have established an integrated technology curriculum beginning in 2nd grade. Our Technology Department includes not only computers but also networking, design, manufacturing, business, and other vocational-technical skills. We offer:
- Integrated curriculum classes
- A school-to-work program
- A work-study program
- Career development
- A cooperative education program through Greater Johnston Career & Technology Center
Dual Enrollment
Conemaugh Township High School offers students the opportunity to earn an associate's degree as part of their 4-year high school experience. By partnering with local community colleges and universities: Penn Highlands, Mount Aloysius College, and Saint Francis University, CTASD can offer students the opportunity to earn college credit for classes taken in high school.
Summer School
A fee based program, summer school is a great opportunity to provide remedial and/or enrichment instruction to students of our district. Course offerings change each year, so check with the guidance office for more information.
Extra-Curricular Activities and Athletics
We encourage all our students to make the most of their educational experience by participating in extra-curricular clubs, sports, and activities sponsored through our schools. Each school offers a host of different activities and interest groups from foreign language to music to skiing. To learn more about each school’s offerings, visit their websites.
Athletics
We recognize the value of our Conemaugh Township Area athletics program; it is an integral part of our students’ school experience. Student athletes participate in the West-Pac Conference and PIAA District 5 competitions throughout the year. Our program gives the students in our schools additional opportunities to find personal and team success by learning the value of competition, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
If you have any questions about our offerings or policies, please contact our athletic director, Jarod Feathers.
